Morzine, a Mountain Bikers Paradise!
In the summer Morzine-Avoriaz lives and breathes mountain biking. This “must go to” destination for mountain bikers across the world has mountain biking in its blood. The first permanent downhill track was built on the Pleney in 1997, making it the very first public DH track in France. Slap bang in the centre of the vast Portes du Soleil MTB area, riders in Morzine-Avoriaz now have access to a network of 19 lifts and 600km of marked trails, and many top riders from across the world base themselves in Morzine to train and relax in between races.
Morzine, the village that has it all!
An authentic mountain village, that’s welcomed tourists for almost a century, Morzine-Avoriaz was one of the first French ski areas to embrace the potential of mountain biking. This has grown over the years and the village now has a huge range of specialist shops renting out bikes, doing repairs and selling essential spares; many guides and instructors to help you get the most out of your time here; and last, but definitely not least, an après-bike scene that’s unrivalled anywhere! The rich MTB heritage has developed into a full offering in the summer for riders, families and outdoor lovers: mountain biking, road biking, hiking, trail running, rafting, canyoning, swimming pools & lakes, heritage visits, or simply relaxing and taking in the stunning mountain views. If it’s adrenaline or R&R you’re after, Morzine has it in spades.
Event : French Championships : 25-28th July 2018
With this rich history, it’s no surprise to see the French Downhill Championships come to Morzine in 2018. France’s top riders will compete on a new track on the legendary Pleney slope. Santa Cruz, partner of the resort, will work hand in hand with the Pleney lift company to develop a race track that will guarantee a spectacular event. This is an exciting return to top level competition at France’s premier MTB destination.
New : Santa Cruz European HQ
In 2017 Santa Cruz established their European HQ in Morzine, cementing the village as the capital of European mountain biking. Located right in the village centre, an 80m2 showroom showcases the range, whilst office space is on the first floor. Steve Peat has his second home in Morzine, and Syndicate mechanic Jason Marsh has been based here for many years already. If you’re in Morzine this summer, there’s every chance you’ll find yourself in the same bar or on the same track as Syndicate riders such as Loris Vergier, Luca Shaw or Greg Minnaar. As well as their pro rider’s hang out and training base, Morzine is now the European test centre for Santa Cruz, chosen for the varied conditions and steep technical tracks.
