A Cheap Family Holiday: Royaume de Marmots and more

Presentation

The best family holidays. For some families they might involve biking, for some hiking, while for others it might all be about water activities. While the definition of 'fun' may vary from family to family, there is one thing that almost all groups looking for 'the best family holiday' have in common – they don't want their trip to cost a fortune.
When it comes to cheap family holidays, the Portes du Soleil takes some beating. There are so many great-value activities and events on offer – alongside a whole host of free ones – that your kids will never get bored. And you end up with extra money in your wallet at the end of your trip. Win, win.

The best family holidays are the ones where all your kids – from the littlest to the oldest – are entertained. One of the most popular free events in Morzine, which caters to all ages, is the Royaume de Marmots. It is held daily from 9 to 14 August 2020 at the Place de l'Office de Tourisme. Highlights include carpentry workshops, activities such as slacklining and snookgolf (think snooker and mini-golf combined) and clown shows. All are completely free. Libre! For the full events listing see Morzine, Royaume des Marmots.
ONE GIANT PLAYGROUND
The best thing about cheap family holidays in the mountains is that the outdoors is much like a giant playground in summer, where you can play all day long to your heart's content without paying a euro. There are numerous child-friendly hiking trails that you can access without the lifts, such as the looped river trail along the Parc des Dérêches – also great for bikes – or (for older kids) the hike up to Col de Cou in the heart of the Vallée de la Manche. The views of the Dents du Midi from the top are breathtaking. Or, you can simply while away the day at one of the picturesque lakes, such as Lac Montriond, with its wooden play park and grassy picnic areas.

Alongside all the free activities and events on offer, there are also plenty of great-value attractions to get stuck into at the Parc des Dérêches. Fancy a game of tennis? There are nine courts available, with teaching for kids aged from four years old. How about a few laps in an Olympic-sized pool? The swimming pool complex not only has a huge open-air pool, but also an outdoor paddling pool with water games, giant 80m waterslide and a beach volleyball court. Eager to get on horseback? The equestrian centre offers guided rides, hacks with instruction and pony treks for kids. There is also a treetop adventure park with ladders, rope bridges and zip wires. After all, don't all the best family holidays involve an adrenaline-inducing zip wire ride? For more details visit parc-dereches.com.
