L'Alpage - La Fruitière de Morzine - The Cheese Cooperative

  • Façade de l'Alpage Morzine© L'Alpage Morzine
Since 1983, we've been here on the Route de La Plagne, close to the centre of Morzine, and have been producing cheese, the heart of our work.
At the fruitiere, we transform the Lait de GAEC Le Chamois, from a herd of about 35 cows kept in a barn through the winter at Les Nants village and on the Plateau de Nyon in the summer, a herd which produces between 300 to 900 litres of milk daily, into our cheese and other milk products. Our 5 main cheeses are the Reblochon*, the Abondance*, the Tomme and Tomette de Morzine, the Raclette, and the Vieux Fromage de la pointe de Nyon, our own specialty, a cheese which is known for it distinctive strong flavour. We also produce from this milk a range of natural yogurts, vanilla or fresh fruit ones, caramel custards, and faisselle yogurt... * Protected designation of origin cheese. There are two ways of discovering our production work: During the summer season (15th June to 15th September) and the winter season (15th December to 15th April), on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9am, you can witness the live production of one of our five cheeses: A guide tour in French with a short film presenting the traditional farming practice, ending with a visit to our cheese cellar. Visit non suitable for groups, and suitable to all public and children aged 6 or over, accompanied by their parents. During the same period in the afternoon between 3pm and 7 pm, we offer an open visit to the fromagerie and cellar, with a complete film presenting the traditional farming practice and cheese production process. These tours are free but not suitable for groups. To book a group tour, please contact us directly on 0450791239. Out of summer and winter times, there is one guided tour per week on Wednesdays at 9am. There is no such service between the 11th November and 5th December. The Alpage shop is located on site and offers direct sale of the products made on site, such as raw milk, or butter, as well as a wide range of cheese from our region and nearby regions, mainly all made by producing farmers. You'll also be able to buy saucisson, ham and special charcuterie products, all made locally. Finally, the shop also offers traditional regional products such as jams and fruit conserves, Savoie wines and liqueurs, honey, prepared meals, herbal teas, home-made chocolate, and much more! The Alpage shop is open year-round from 8am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 7:30pm everyday, and open non stop from 8:30 am to 7:30pm in winter from the 15th December to the 31st March. It is closed on Sunday afternoons and on bank holidays during spring and autumn. Annual closing dates: 11th November through to 5th December (no visits during this period either). Also on site is our restaurant. The Ferme de la fruitiere Restaurant is set over three different levels with a vaulted ceiling dining room overlooking the maturing wheels of Abondance and Raclette cheese produced next door. Le Restaurant de la Fruitiere is a genuine producer's restaurant where the menu really highlights the types of cheese made onsite and on which most of the dishes are based, such as the berthoud, from our Abondance cheese, and a less famous dish called "Farcement". You'll also find local meat and fish on the menu, and everything is prepared with fresh produce by our chef Adrien Lamoure. All our dessert are prepared by our resident patissiere, Helene Leray, and that includes the ice-creams and sorbets, made from our own raw milk. The restaurant is open in the winter from 15th of December to 15th of April, and in the summer, from 20th of June to 15th of September. Booking is recommended: 0450797770. 1 fork award by the Michelin guide.
