What can I do during 2021 February holidays in Morzine?


Following the government announcements, the ski area is currently closed, but Morzine is a beautiful village resort that has a lot to offer as well as skiing. The village is a winter wonderland with pretty lights and decorations, and the perfect place to spend a weekend away. For the February holidays you'll find a plethora of outdoor activities and a packed entertainment programme with different activities every day, for all ages!
We understand that you have a lot of questions about what a holiday here will be like, and you'll find the answers below. This page will be updated regularly and please get in touch if you don't find the answer to your questions, the Tourist Office of Morzine-Avoriaz is open everyday from 9am to 6pm.

Ski area


Can I go skiing?

The lifts and ski area will be closed for alpine skiing until further notice. Ski touring and cross-country skiing are both authorized as individual activities and the cross-country ski area will be groomed and open, as long as conditions allow.

The ESF jardin d'enfants is open with the carpet. For 3-5 year old beginners only. Private 1h lesson: 40€ per hour (for 1 or 2 children).

Ski touring

Pistes open for ski touring:
Avoriaz : bleu du Lac – bleu d’Arare – le Crot (For the ski touring practice only, alpine skiing on these slopes is prohibited.)
Access to Les Prodains on the free bus line A from the center of Morzine.
​• Morzine : Piste B on Plénéy every day except Wednesday and Saturday.
From Montriond> Ascent and descent via the Parchets and la Combe à Floret slopes.
The ascent route will take you through the village of Lindarets and the Lindarets plateau.
-One itinerary from Lindarets to the top of the Chaux-Fleurie chairlift via the Grand Plan piste.
-One itinerary from Lindarets  through the Stash and a new module each week in the Stash. 
On these routes, ski touring will be authorized from 9.00 a.m to 4.00p.m.
Outside these hours, access to ski touring routes is prohibited, in particular due to the danger caused by ski area preparation and maintenance activities (grooming, machine circulation, preventive triggering of avalanches, etc.)
The remainder of the ski area will be closed and therefore will not be signed and groomed. Any activity undertaken is at your own risk. Rescue will not be assured by the pistes services but by civil security (tel 112).
If you are touring off-piste make sure you check the weather and avalanche risk and don’t forget the necessary safety equipment (transceiver, shovel & probe). Don’t forget you can reserve an instructor or guide to take you out!

Nordic skiing

A manned information point will be in place throughout the February holidays in l'Erigné.

Access by car from Morzine to Les Gets then direction Les Chavannes to the summit
• Red slope between the end of Lake Montriond and the Albertans; green trail to Albertans (three possible loops)
• Proclou sector in Avoriaz and Super-Morzine loop - Access on the free bus line A then the Prodains cable car
• Fun area in Ardent: possibility of skating; ski-joering and tobogganing

Can people living or staying in France go skiing in Switzerland?

The French government strongly advises against skiing in Switzerland. Random controls at the border are being carried out, with quarantine or isolation being enforced on skiers returning to France.

Are any lifts open?

The Avoriaz 3S gondola is open as public transport for pedestrians. It provides access between Morzine and Avoriaz and can only be used for "normal" trips between these 2 resorts.
The Crôt slope served by the Prodains cable car is prohibited for downhill skiing and tobogganing.
The ski lift staff are entitled to refuse access to the Prodains cable car to anyone who does not comply with the above conditions.

The Prodains cable car is open everyday to the public with a rotation every 20 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For the convenience of users, the toilets located at the bottom and at the top of the lift will be open while the cable car is open.
Free shuttles are in circulation on line A to serve the cable car from Morzine (every 30 min).
However, no lifts will be open for skiers and the ski pistes will be closed.

What possibilities are there for walking and snowshoeing?

Both walking and snowshoeing are allowed, with many easy to find walks. You can get information at the Tourist Office and find the free nordic guide.
The paths next to the river, the “Dereches” and the “Chemin de Renard” will be groomed and safety will be ensured by the Town services (Mairie). These offer easy walks at village level. A list of guides offering a variety of outings is above.

A manned information point will be in place throughout the February holidays in l'Erigné in the Vallée de la Manche from where you can access a huge amount of walks.

Are the pool and ice rink open?

The outdoor icerink on the Tourist Office square is currently open Monday to Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Prices: Adult € 4 - Child € 2.30 + skate rentals € 3.70.
The swimming pool and indoor ice rink will be closed as mandated by the government.

What outdoor activities are available?

The sledging area at the base of Pleney will be open and groomed.
Parapente dual flights will be offered by the following providers:

The horse riding centre, Alpes equitation (06 32 61 41 98 - morzine-equitation.fr) will be open for pony rides and pony activities in the snow. The equestrian centre also offers a ski joëring + horse ride of 1 hour.
Horse drawn sleigh rides (06 73 51 71 85 - morzinetraineaux.com) : Rachel Marullaz offers rides every afternoon from the Tourist Office Square – please reserve.

The carousel will be open from from 10am to 7pm.
Local heritage guides also offer tours of the village on Thursday at 10am reservation on 06 42 75 55 12 – information is available at the Tourist Office.

Alpine French School (04 50 79 08 38 - alpinefrenchschool.com) are also offering language courses: Individual classes, to prepare an exam, online classes and courses for children and adolescents.
The local trout fish farm (06 04 59 25 26) will be open for visits on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (registrations before Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at a price of € 2) and for the purchase of trout.
The cheesemaker, l'Alpage Morzine (04 50 79 12 39 - alpage-morzine.com), will open the production centre and ripening cellars every afternoon for visits from 3 p.m to 7 p.m (limited to 5 people at a time), but unfortunately the cheesemaking demonstration is not possible.

The farm, Ferme de Serrausaix (06 71 54 14 69 - lafermedeseraussaix.com) will be open every day from 10am to 5pm with the sale of cheese, hot drinks and crêpes to take away. Free access to the stable during the day and the milking (4-5pm) and guided visits on Thuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Information and reservations at the Avoriaz Tourist Office. 

La Chèvrerie des Ardoisières (06 31 57 01 40) opens its doors every evening at 4 p.m. to allow you to see the goats.

A permanent virtual treasure hunt is offered free of charge to discover the village and have fun with the family: go to the "Géodyssée" app and find the "Sur les trâces du yéti" and "Le trésor perdu" routes.

Piste game in Lil’Stash
Markers to stamp can be found around the cabins in the Lil’Stash.
Packs needed to play are available from the Avoriaz Tourist Office.
A Burton Lil’Stash prize is given for every card filled out.

Shopkeepers Game
The traditional Morzine shopkeepers game has been put into place for the February holidays.
The card to fill out is available in the Morzine Tourist Office and from the shops. Collect stamps and return the card for the chance to win a prize.
No purchase necessary. Winners chosen by drawing lots each Friday.

Blugeon Hélicoptères (06 11 18 18 74 - blugeon-helicopteres.com) offers helicopter first flight and parachute jumps.

What entertainment (animation) is available?

The Entertainment Programme has been adapted to take into account the restrictions of the sanitary situation and the change in activity in Morzine. However visits and activities are on offer throughout the week, and the programme will be reinforced during the February holidays, taking into account the rules of the current situation.
The Morzine Tourist Office and activity providers have prepared a programme with activities every day for all ages :
-Games free of charge on the Tourist Office Square
-Workshops for children
-Ice sculptures
-Fun sessions on our sledging area and ice rink
-Music to make a festive atmosphere
-Face painting
-Virtual reality sessions
-And above all the Odyssée des Mines d'Or, an adventure for families or groups of friends (every Friday during the holidays).

Village and practical info


What buses and transport are running?

The free local bus services are running, but with a service adapted to the current sanitary situation. Find details of lines running and timetable.

Are the car parks open?

All covered parking lots are chargeable. In both the Joux Plane and Office de Tourisme car parks, the first three hours is free of charge, in the Parking du Bourg the first 30 minutes is free of charge. In On-street parking is free, but overnight parking is prohibited in order not to interfere with snow removal.

Are the shops open?

Morzine has a wide range of shops that will be open.
For food, you will find lovely local producers and shops selling regional specialties as well as the supermarket. Plus, Morzine has a weekly market on Wednesday mornings with plenty of local produce.
There are also numerous boutiques as well as sports shops.
You can find details of all the shops.
A Terroir et savoir-faire card with the different local producers is available at the reception of the Tourist Office.

Are restaurants open?

While restaurants and bars cannot open to clients, many of Morzine’s restaurants are offering take away dishes.

How can I reserve a place to stay?

Morzine Reservation is on hand to help you find a hotel, apartment or find information on accommodation.
A number of Morzine’s hotels are open for guests. Please note breakfasts and dinners will be served in bedrooms in order to comply with rules.
