What can I do during the Christmas holidays in Morzine?

Presentation

Following the government announcements, the ski area will be closed over Christmas and New Year, but Morzine is a beautiful village resort that has a lot to offer as well as skiing. The village is a winter wonderland with pretty lights and decorations, and the perfect place to spend Christmas and New Year.

We understand that you have a lot of questions about what a holiday here will be like, and are doing our best to answer. Some elements remained unconfirmed by the government, so the information below will be updated regularly as we learn more.

Ski area

Can I go skiing?

The lifts and ski area will be closed for alpine skiing. Ski touring and cross-country skiing are both authorized as individual activities and the cross-country ski area will be groomed and open, as long as conditions allow.

Pistes open for ski touring:
  • Avoriaz : bleu du Lac – bleu d’Arare – le Crot
  • Pléney : the piste B up to the security post
  • From Montriond> Ascent and descent via the Parchets and Combe slopes in Floret.
The ascent route will take you through the village of Lindarets and the Lindarets plateau.
On these routes, ski touring will be authorized from 9.00 am. to 4.00p.m.
Outside these hours, access to ski touring routes is prohibited, in particular due to the
dangerousness caused by ski area preparation and maintenance activities (grooming,
machine circulation, preventive triggering of avalanches, etc.)
The remainder of the ski area will not open and therefore will not be signed and groomed, and there will not be the usual safety and rescue service. Work will be underway to prepare for the opening so these pistes are off-limits until the area is able to open.

If you are touring off-piste don’t forget the necessary safety equipment (transceiver, shovel & probe) for venturing off-piste.
