Breathe in the fresh alpine air as you run through the amazing landscape, swim in crystal clear Morzine lakes and ride some of the best road biking cols in the world. With never-ending routes enriched with the stunning vistas of the magnificent mountains including the skyscraping Mont Blanc, you will literally feel as you’re on top of the world when training for your triathlon.
Swimming, pedalling, running; all the disciplines that make up the triathlon are practicable in summer and winter in Morzine and its surroundings.
The aquatic centre, located at the entrance to Parc des Dérêches, is accessible a good part of the year and swimmers and triathletes will appreciate being able to train in the summer in the Olympic pool. While swim training can take place in the outdoor Olympic size pool of the Morzine-Avoriaz resort, you can also practice open swimming in the pristine blue waters of Lake Montriond. Be careful: the water can be cool there (remember to take your wetsuit) and swimming is not supervised.
When it comes to biking, you’re spoilt for choices with some of the best road bike routes in the world at your doorsteps. A great ride is a safe bet if you ride the legendary Cols de Joux Plane or the Col de Joux Verte, often ridden by the riders of the Tour de France. In fact, the world’s biggest annual sporting event— The Tour de France makes an appearance in Morzine every so often, which is testament to the wonderful road cycling terrain here.
On the running side, a fitness trail has been designed in the Parc des Dérêches to allow you to practice a sporting activity while enjoying the freshness of the Dranse river and the shade of the forest. This trail can be followed during the winter period, unless you prefer to train indoors, with weight training sessions!
