Road cycling is one of the most popular activities to try during your holiday in our beautiful resort. A true "road bike paradise", Morzine offers exceptional routes and itineraries through spectacular scenery nestled in the French Alps.

Morzine, awarded the "accueil vélo" label

The "ACCUEIL VÉLO" label recognises the efforts of Morzine Tourist Office and the resort to provide services for all cyclists (mainly cycle tourists, but also mountain bikers and cyclists on bikes) and to create a network of cycle routes. The label is a logical part of the Tourist Office's approach to developing cycling activities around the resort. The aim is to highlight the efforts made and the tourist infrastructures adapted to cyclists.

You’re looking for a top-notch cycling friendly hotel in the heart of Morzine? Look no further! We have flexible hotel options. All of our accomodations have passed a rigorous inspection process to achieve the award “Label Vélo”.

Moreover, some sports shops have also obtained the bicycle label because of the specialised services they offer such as road bike hire, the sale of accessories (tyres, tubes, repair kits, etc.), and bike adjustment and repair.

Stage town of the Tour de France

47 years ago, in 1975, the resort of Morzine hosted the most famous cycling race in its history. Now, in 2022, the Tour de France is returning to the Portes du Soleil resort for the 21st time. Six years after its last visit, Morzine is once again high on the Tour de France map. After a rest day in the resort on Monday 11 July, Morzine will kick off the 10th stage on 12 July 2022 with a 148km route to Megève.

Our different routes

Below you will find our favourite routes around Morzine, but there are also many other possible routes. To find out more, download our free cycling guide.
  • Col de la Joux-Verte - 6% gradient
A very steep road that runs alongside the beautiful lake of Montriond. It is difficult not to stop, but you should not fail to do so on the way down. Watch out for the goats in the village of Lindarets!

  • Col de la Joux Plane North side - 6.5% gradient
Less difficult side than the south side, but with a severe slope from the start. Nice finish, next to a small lake, once past the col de Ranfolly.

Did you know that on the 24th of July, the Col de Joux plane will be exclusively reserved for cyclists. Classified as a non-category pass and crossed 11 times by the Tour de France, enthusiasts will be able to tackle the 11 km of the pass without fear of cars. "Adopte 1 col" is a sporting event, but above all a friendly one!

  • Ascent to Avoriaz - 6% gradient
The wide, well-trodden road in the resort of Avoriaz allows you to admire the landscape over and over again.

Come and climb this mythical road which was first officially climbed during the Tour de France in 1975. The reference time still belongs to Bernard Hinault, in 33 minutes. Every summer, a climb between Morzine and Avoriaz is organised by the Vélo Club de Morzine-Avoriaz, if you are interested, the meeting point is in front of the church in Morzine.
