Congratulations and encouragements are in order.

Morzine is one of the 34 towns awarded the 2022 « Ville à Vélo du Tour de France », which means Cycling town of the Tour de France.

This award has four levels, symbolised by little yellow bikes appearing on signs that the towns can install at the entrance to their territory. The criteria takes into account the size of the town, the strategy of developing cycling infrastructure, concrete actions linked to encouraging cycling, (teaching in schools, awareness campaigns, rides etc.) or even any help offered to clubs or groups involved in cycle sport in the area. Only the major cities such as Paris, Copenhagen (Denmark) and Valkenburg (Holland) achieved level 4.

Morzine-Avoriaz was awarded 3 bikes, rewarding quality investment in developing sport cycling, and not forgetting its importance to the mountain village. A sought after destination for cyclists for over 40 years and having already hosted the  Tour de France 21 times, Morzine-Avoriaz is a base to climb 25 cols, and has for many years put  cyclotourisme and sports cycling at the heard of local development. The town and many of its hotels and shops already have the “Accueil Vélo” (Bikes welcome) award recognising the facilities they offer to cyclists.

As well as road cycling, the resort offers signed routes and a renowned MTB area. Morzine is part of the largest mountain bike area in Europe, the Portes du Soleil, and has numerous MTB tracks, charging points for e-bikes and fun zones for jumps and pumptracks.  Morzine is aiming to develop cycling in all its forms. This award recognises the incredible offer in place for any cyclists looking for the next destination for their cycling holiday.
