Off piste skiing & Heliskiing

Ski off the beaten track

The Portes du Soleil represents no less than 600km of skiing, which is enough to have fun from one end of the ski area to the other, between France and Switzerland. There are over 290 slopes for all levels, but for some of you that may not be enough. In contrast, lovers of powder snow and skiing in a natural environment seek to get away from marked trails and beaten paths. Freeride is for them! Skiing, snowboarding, ski touring or even split-boarding, all these are allowed in the Portes du Soleil area for a maximum of sensations off the slopes.

Freeride allows you to discover wild landscapes and access the most beautiful routes of the Portes du Soleil, while moving away from the ski area and therefore from the marked trails. It will definitely open for you the doors to the winter mountain in the wild.

Chamossière Freeride Area

In the Morzine-Les Gets ski area, you will find a specific freeride area located in Chamossière. At an altitude of 2000 meters, the Chamossière area is easily accessible by chairlift, which makes things easier, but there is a large open valley which is set free for freeride. The width of the area, its relief and its altitude ensure natural snow cover throughout the winter. Its northwest orientation means that it is only slightly affected by the Sun. Conditions are therefore good until the end of the season.

Don't neglect safety equipment

Wherever you go skiing, on or off the slopes, stay safe and never neglect safety instructions. Before going skiing, remember to check the snow conditions as well as the risk of avalanches. You can also ask advice from ski patrollers to avoid making any mistake.
Freeride is a discipline which can be dangerous and it requires strong experience of the mountains. Never overestimate your abilities. It is always better to stop and head back home, rather than to take risks! Also remember to take suitable safety equipment with you (dva, shovel, etc.).

Call on a ski instructor to ski safely

If you are a beginner or if you are unfamiliar with the ski area, we strongly recommend that you call on a ski instructor or a high-mountain professional to accompany you on your next freeride outing.
Specializing in this sport, they will be able to give you advice and help you discover all the secrets of freeride in complete safety. They will guide you through the most suitable and safe areas of the Morzine-Les Gets and Portes du Soleil ski area, depending on the snow conditions and the quality of the terrain.

To go further, get started in Heliskiing

You can also, by means of a helicopter, gain height and access freeride areas that are not normally accessible. A helicopter drops you off at the top of the mountains. It's then time for you to enjoy your skiing adventure with a breathtaking view over the Alps and, more precisely, of Mont-Blanc and the entire Chablais valley. You will then have the chance to experience a rather unusual ski session! You will clearly enjoy both the pleasure of the mountain and the adrenaline.
