Lakes not to be missed during your stay

Lake Montriond: not to be missed

Just 10 minutes from Morzine, and you’re standing in front of a mirror of water lined with fir trees and cliffs. Lac de Montriond is a bit like summer HQ. You can go for a swim, hire a paddle or canoe, walk around the lake (3.5 km, easy), or just put your towel down in the shade for a well-earned picnic.

And if you want to do more, the Ardent waterfall is not far away. Do it with the family, your mates or on your own, it works every time.

The Lac des Mines d’Or: guaranteed wilderness atmosphere

Less well known, but just as hot: the Lac des Mines d’Or. A small, perched lake surrounded by mountains, with the story of a gold mine (hence the name) adding a mystical touch. You can’t swim there, but it’s THE perfect spot for a quiet picnic, or to start a hike on the GR5.

Accessible by foot from Morzine, but also by car. Handy if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet without breaking a sweat.

Lac de Nyon Guérin: the most confidential lake

Our favourite. No crowds here. Just you, nature and a small lake perched at an altitude of 1,480 m. To get there, you have to walk a little (30 minutes from the Nyon plateau), but frankly, it’s worth the diversions. It’s the perfect place to take a breather, relax for a while… or continue hiking to the pointe de Nyon. Less crowded, more natural: worth a try if you want to get off the beaten track.

Lake Geneva: large-format version

Looking for a change of scenery without going far? Less than an hour from Morzine, Lake Geneva offers a completely different landscape. The largest lake in the region, between France and Switzerland. Here, you’ll find beaches, harbours, cruises, towns and mountains in the background. You can stop off in Thonon or Evian, or enjoy a stroll along the water’s edge.

With so many lakes nearby, there's no question of dying from the heat this summer. So get your trainers on (or your swimming costume) and set off to discover it all! '
