The Portes du Soleil MTB area
Over the years, Portes du Soleil has become a MTB area that is well-known across the globe. This is a top summer sport for so many people, so why not you too? Choose to set off from one of the area’s 12 resorts. Morzine is right at the heart of this area and from there, you can quickly reach Les Gets or in the other direction, Avoriaz, towards the Swiss resorts. You can use the 30 or so ski lifts to then explore no less than 600 km of MTB tracks and trails. If you’re feeling particularly motivated, there’s an 80 km trail that will lead you around the entire Portes du Soleil area. A fun challenge to take on with friends!
Every year, the Portes du Soleil hosts a major event devoted to this sport: Pass’Portes du Soleil MTB. This is one of the summer’s much-awaited events for MTB enthusiasts. It is a non-timed MTB route from resort to resort. Ride at your own pace and stop off at the many refreshments stations where you’ll be greeted with local specialities, drinks and entertainment!
This is a great way to kick off the season and explore the Portes du Soleil, the beautiful scenery and local products there.
The Morzine-Avoriaz MTB area
Halfway between Mont-Blanc and Lake Geneva, Morzine-Avoriaz is at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the world’s biggest MTB areas. In the 90s, Morzine-Avoriaz was one of the first resorts to redesign the winter ski area into a MTB area for the summer (Le Pleney downhill MTB trail opened in 1996). In summer, there are more than 25 ski lifts that are equipped for transporting mountain bikes up to the peaks between France and Switzerland. Whiz down the trails, go exploring or ride at a leisurely pace…
All mountain bikers will find a trail or route that suits them. Morzine’s central location means that it’s possible to use the downhill trails to reach the village from most of the ski lifts across the Portes du Soleil. This destination is made for MTB with adapted facilities, specialist shops, a great atmosphere and plenty to do after mountain biking.
MTB in Morzine-Avoriaz is all about:
• Black, red, blue and green trails that can be reached via Le Pleney gondola lift and the Super Morzine gondola lift
•Specific markings on the trails and paths, so the MTB routes can be clearly identified
•New itineraries to improve links between Morzine-Avoriaz and Les Lindarets, in the Super Morzine, Zore and Col de Joux Verte sectors
•Morzine is in the ideal location at the heart of the MTB area and it is easy to reach Les Gets and Avoriaz. This location is perfect for a 100% MTB holiday in Morzine.
Respect the MTB charter
Morzine-Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil have worked together to compile their very own ‘rules of good conduct’.
