In summer, Morzine-Avoriaz lives and breathes mountain biking. This is the ultimate destination for mountain bikers from across the world who have cycling in their soul. The first permanent downhill MTB slope was created in the Pleney sector in 1997. It was also the first downhill trail in France to be opened to the public.   From Morzine, mountain bikers now have access to a network of 19 lifts and 600 km of trails in the vast Portes du Soleil MTB area. It’s no wonder that so many professional mountain bikers come from all over the world to train and unwind in Morzine.

Morzine, the village that has everything!

The authentic village of Morzine has been welcoming tourists for nearly a hundred years. Morzine-Avoriaz was one of the first ski resorts to develop mountain biking in the mountain environment. This discipline has progressed considerably over the years and the village now boasts a wide range of shops specialising in bike rentals, repairs and essential spare parts. A number of guides and instructors are also on hand to help you get the most out of your time here. And to round it all off nicely, you can get together after an action-packed day to enjoy drinks in a festive atmosphere of togetherness at one of the village’s many bars and restaurants. Driven by the huge success of MTB activities in our mountains, the resort has been able to develop a host of other summer activities to keep riders, families and nature lovers entertained. Besides mountain biking, these include road cycling, trail running, rafting, canyoning, swimming at the pool or in lakes, visiting monuments and simply relaxing and admiring the stunning mountain views. Whether you’re looking for exhilarating experiences or a peaceful rest, Morzine has just what you need!

Event: French Championships from 25 to 28 July 2018

With its fascinating history, it was no surprise when Morzine was chosen to host the French Downhill MTB Championships in 2018. A new trail was created specially for the occasion on the legendary Pleney slope. As a partner of the village, Santa Cruz worked hand in hand with the lift operators of Le Pleney to create a circuit that would guarantee a spectacular event.
It was an amazing renewal with high-level competition at France’s number one MTB destination.

New: Morzine, European headquarters of Santa Cruz

In 2017, the Santa Cruz brand established its European head office in Morzine, which led the village to become the European capital of mountain biking. In the village centre, the brand is showcased in an 80 m² showroom, with offices on the first floor. Steve Peat has a holiday home in Morzine and the Santa Cruz Syndicate team mechanic, Jason Marsh, has lived here for a number of years. If you’re in Morzine this summer, chances are you’ll find yourself in the same bar or on the same trail as Syndicate competitors such as Loris Vergier, Luca Shaw or Greg Minnaar. In addition to being their favourite training ground, Morzine is now Santa Cruz’s European test centre, thanks to the variety of conditions and steep, technically challenging slopes.
