Nyon has been given a new lease of life. On the Nyon plateau, there is now a new leisure complex on the theme of hiking and exploration of the mountains. There’s plenty going on to make sure you get the most out of your summer holiday in the mountains surrounded by nature.

You can reach Nyon via the cable car from the centre of Morzine

Whether you use the free shuttle bus from the centre of Morzine or you choose to come by car, it’s very easy to get to the Pointe de Nyon.
The easiest option is to go to Nyon car park by car, free shuttle bus or even by foot along the Chemin du Renard (fox trail) from the centre of the village. From this free car park which is around 2 km from Morzine in the direction of the Valley of La Manche, you’ll need to use the brand-new escalator to get to the cable car ticket office. It will then take only a few minutes to reach Nyon plateau on the cable car. On the way up, you can enjoy the stunning scenery all around you!  You’ll be able to enjoy the views across Morzine valley and the surrounding area.
You can also choose to drive up to Nyon plateau on the road that leads to the Col de Joux Plane.

Nyon, departure point for hiking around Morzine

Several hiking trails depart from the cable car arrival station and there really is something for everyone. The various routes are classified by level of difficulty so that the whole family can choose the right one to make the most of their walk and the surrounding natural environment. You don’t need to be an expert of the mountains or a talented athlete to be able to get the most out of these trails.
There’s a path from Nyon plateau that will lead you on a superb one-hour walk up to the Pointe de Nyon where you can admire the unique scenery and the view of the main peaks in the Chablais region. From there, you might even be lucky enough to see Lake Geneva.
There’s another fairly easy route to Nyon Guérin lake to explore this artificial lake and stunning blue waters surrounded by lush greenery. This lake was created as a water supply for the snow cannons.
The advantage of walking around the Nyon sector is that it is entirely devoted to hiking, and is therefore pedestrian-only. This means you are not likely to run into any mountain bikers on your route.

A fun hiking trail to explore

Just a few metres from the Nyon cable car upper station, there’s a new educational, one-hour walk. This trail was created so that visitors can learn about the local wildlife.
You can also turn this into an interactive hike by using an application to make a record of all the animals you see on your way. There are signs dotted along the trail with explanations about the animals living in the beautiful mountains of Morzine.

Not-to-be-missed in Morzine, the new ‘Pas de l’Aigle’ footbridge

This glass-bottomed footbridge is 15 metres long and appears to cling to the mountainsides at a staggering altitude of 2,019 metres. It opened to the public on 9 July 2021 and offers a stunning 360° view from Mont-Blanc to Lake Geneva. Just imagine the photos you could take from this footbridge!
If you would like to get to the Pas de l’Aigle footbridge, the only way is via the Point de Nyon chairlift.
For the way back down, you have two options. You can go back via the chairlift to Nyon plateau and just admire the views without any strenuous effort.
Or for those who would like to continue hiking, there’s a footpath to Nyon Guérin lake and then why not end your walk at the Pointe de Nyon restaurant where, as well as the delicious dishes on the menu, they also offer a wide range of new activities.
Good to know: For your comfort and with protection of the environment in mind, there are environmentally friendly toilets available at the Pointe de Nyon peak, that are operated by solar panels.

Activities and shows at the Pointe de Nyon restaurant

This summer, the team at the Pointe de Nyon restaurant are also offering a range of activities, including introductions to life in the Alpine pastures, to local plant and animal species and biodiversity. There is also a little educational farm there that is free to visit, organised tours, activities and shows on the theme of the shepherd and his work are organised throughout the day alongside the restaurant, birds of prey will fly overhead as you enjoy your meal and there’s a special children’s play area inside the restaurant with giant ball pit and a life-size shepherd’s game.
