Morzine is a village with a population of 3,000 in the French department of Haute-Savoie, at the heart of the Alps. The town is certified as a tourist destination and comprises 2 tourist resorts: Morzine, a charming resort-village at an altitude of 1,000 metres, and Avoriaz at 1,800 metres. Morzine is between Mont-Blanc and Lake Geneva and is a destination with so much to offer, beginning with the charming and authentic village with typically Savoyard, historic architecture.

Before becoming a well-known winter sports resort, it was renowned for slate production which was used much more in roofing back then than it is today.

Avoriaz: The 100% Pedestrian Resort

The resort of Avoriaz was created in the 1960s. It was in the highlands of Morzine that Jean Vuarnet, Jacques Labro and Gérard Brémont came up with an idea that was completely unheard of at the time, to create a modern, urban resort that would blend into the natural environment, where the ski slopes would lead right down onto the snow-covered streets and straight to the accommodation and shops… You know the rest, because this idea became Avoriaz, a place which no longer needs any introduction
