But what is rafting?
Rafting is a recreational activity with an inflatable raft to navigate white waters.
The activity begins with a brief introduction to the equipment and how to use it, and a safety briefing. After putting on your helmets and other safety equipment, you’ll be ready to board your raft and set off!
Using your paddles and with help from your teammates, the goal is to take on the rapids, rivers and torrents and… try and stay in the boat! This outdoor activity is all about teamwork and pushing your limits… making rafting an intense and thrilling sport.
Compared to other boats that are not as stable, in a raft you can navigate rapids that are not necessarily suitable for kayaks and canoes.
Rafting is an opportunity to push your limits and experience something truly exciting, even if you have never done anything like this before.
What equipment do you need for this sort of activity?
Here is a list of the equipment you will be provided with: a raft with foot straps to help you stay in place while rowing and a lifeline to hold onto in case you fall into the water; a paddle; a life jacket; a special rafting helmet with ear protection; a wetsuit that will be adapted to the weather conditions and rafting aqua shoes.
Is it dangerous?
Just like all activities in the mountains, rafting isn’t dangerous as long as you follow the instructions given by your instructor. The instructor is qualified, has extensive knowledge of the river and has been trained to be able to assist you if you get into difficulty.
Rafting is suitable for anyone who can swim and feels confident in the water. However, for certain more technical descents, a minimum age often applies.
