Ski Touring Safely

Ski touring is prohibited on ski slopes. A tolerance may be granted on certain slopes from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. During these hours, users ski at their own risk and cannot be rescued by the ski patrol. They are also encouraged to equip themselves with a light device to see and be seen. Outside of these slopes and times, night skiing is very dangerous, especially due to grooming operations on the slopes.

The slopes subject to this tolerance will be specified by municipal orders. We encourage you to stay informed with the ski patrol at the beginning of the next season. Ski touring in unmarked areas is free. But be careful to orient yourself properly before setting out and respect all safety instructions. “Unmarked” means “not secure”! Ski touring can be dangerous, which is why it is essential to equip yourself with appropriate gear for this sport as well as necessary safety equipment (beacon, shovel, and probe, among others).

Before every trip into the mountains, it is recommended to inform at least one person close to you about your location and the duration of your outing. Do not hesitate to hire a qualified guide or instructor for trips in unmarked and secure areas. Mountain professionals know the dangerous areas and where it is safe to ski tour. Furthermore, they can share their knowledge of the local fauna and flora, help you discover the surrounding mountains, and take you to the best spots for maximum enjoyment. Enjoy the most beautiful landscapes and views of the Portes du Soleil!
