Check out the new Erigné site, “Mines d’Or Experiences”
In 2020, due to the health crisis and the government’s decision to keep the lifts closed throughout the winter season, the resort of Morzine was forced to find new solutions to attract tourists. The resort’s professionals had to be creative and innovative to come up with activities other than downhill skiing, for the benefit of those tourists who had decided to maintain their bookings and make the most of the region’s relatively abundant snowfall.
It is often in difficult circumstances that new ideas emerge, and the local residents made it their mission to promote new activities for tourists, with a focus on eco-friendly pursuits with a Nordic dimension. Such were the circumstances in which the Erigné site was enhanced and further developed as a Nordic sports complex. The idea took off and met with resounding success throughout the winter season. After all, people talk about ‘ski holidays’ but we also call them ‘wintersports holidays’.
An unspoilt site within easy reach of Morzine centre
The Erigné site is just a few kilometres from the resort centre, via the road that leads through the Manche Valley towards the Mines d’Or Lake. If you don’t have a car, you can get there just as easily on one of the free shuttle buses provided by the local council of Morzine.
An area devoted to Nordic sports
At the Erigné site, a space devoted entirely to
Nordic activities has been created. Unspoilt with no
lifts, and yet easy to reach, the site is ideal for walks in an untouched snowy landscape to really recharge your batteries. But there are other activities besides hiking. Indeed, last year the entire site was improved and a tourist information point installed, as well as a cross-country skiing trail, a snow playground, a picnic area, a sledging slope and even an igloo!
For the winter of 2021-2022, the Erigné Nordic site will be developed to accommodate most Nordic sports, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and will be named ‘Mines d’Or
Experiences’. Walking itineraries will be created for hikers and a giant igloo will be built, as well as a children’s playground. But that’s not all. The Erigné site will also include a specific area for an introduction to biathlon, and various activities will be organised each week. This winter, the Erigné site is the place to be in the Manche Valley, and an absolute must during your stay in Morzine!
The place to take part in the Mines d’Or Odysseys
Last winter, the ESF ski school joined forces with the Tourist Office and the Chablais Geopark to create the ‘Mines d’Or Odysseys’, one-day micro adventures for the whole family to enjoy at the Erigné site. This year, the concept is back, slightly transformed to take the form of a treasure hunt. See you on 30 December 2021, 18 & 25 February 2022 and 4 April 2022, for an even more enjoyable experience. The Erigné site, a heavenly spot, looks set to become the official supplier of smiles and laughter to tourists and locals alike.
