In 2020, the health crisis and the government’s decision to keep the ski lifts closed throughout the winter forced the Morzine resort to rethink its tourist offerings. The local professionals had to get creative and innovative, providing non-alpine ski activities to tourists who chose to maintain their stay in the area to enjoy the abundant snowfall.
Often, great ideas emerge from difficult situations, and the locals took pride in promoting new activities to tourists, particularly focusing on gentle and Nordic pursuits. This is how the Erigné site was enhanced and further developed into a space dedicated to Nordic activities. The idea was a huge success throughout the winter. After all, while we talk about “ski vacations,” many also speak more broadly of “snow vacations.”
A Preserved Site with Easy Access from Morzine’s Center
The Erigné site is just a few kilometers from the resort center, following the road leading to the Vallée de la Manche, towards Lake Mines d’Or. If you don’t have a vehicle, you can easily reach it by taking one of the free shuttles provided by the Morzine municipality.
A Space Dedicated to Nordic Activities
The Erigné site has been developed into an area specifically dedicated to Nordic activities. This wild yet easily accessible location, free from ski lifts, is perfect for recharging and enjoying walks in the pristine snow. But hiking isn’t the only option. Last year, the entire space was enhanced with a tourist information point, a cross-country ski track, a snow playground, a picnic area, a sledding area, and even an igloo!
For the 2021-2022 winter season, the Erigné Nordic site will be further improved for activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and will be renamed “Mines d’Or Experiences.” Walking routes will be available for hikers, a giant igloo will be set up, along with a children’s play area. And that’s not all. Visitors will also find a biathlon initiation area and various weekly activities. This winter, the Erigné site will be the must-see spot in the Vallée de la Manche, not to be missed during your stay in Morzine!
The Place to Experience the “Mines d’Or Odyssées”
Last winter, the ESF, in collaboration with the Tourist Office and the Chablais Geopark, introduced the “Mines d’Or Odyssées” at Erigné, offering micro-adventure days for the whole family. This year, the concept returns, slightly revamped as a treasure hunt. Join us on December 30, 2021, February 18 and 25, 2022, and April 4, 2022, for an even more fun experience.
Erigné, a little paradise for tourists and locals alike, is sure to become the official supplier of smiles and laughter this winter!
