Pleney Bike Park in the Heart of the Village
It’s impossible to talk about mountain biking in Morzine without mentioning Pleney. Just a few minutes’ walk from the village centre via the Pleney gondola, this iconic bike park has earned an international reputation, including being voted Europe’s Best Bike Park in 2020.
The Pleney Bike Park offers a diverse riding experience, with more than 20 kilometres of marked trails and around 1,500 metres of vertical descent, served by six lifts (one gondola and several chairlifts). Riders of all abilities will find something to enjoy:
- Green and blue trails, smooth and well-maintained, perfect for building confidence and improving skills.
- Natural enduro trails winding through the forest for riders looking for a more technical and varied experience.
- Legendary black runs, including the famous Pleney downhill track created in 1997, renowned for its roots, steep sections and technical challenges, best suited to experienced riders.
Beginners and younger riders are also well catered for. The Skills Bike Park offers a gentle introduction to downhill riding with progressive features designed for learning. The bike park has also expanded with dedicated magic carpets and a chairlift, allowing riders to enjoy more laps with less waiting time.
Morzine: The Central Hub of the Portes du Soleil
One of Morzine’s greatest strengths is its location. The resort sits right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil, Europe’s largest mountain biking area, spanning 12 villages across Haute-Savoie in France and neighbouring Switzerland, including Avoriaz, Les Gets, Châtel, Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, Abondance and Montriond.
The area is home to five internationally renowned bike parks:
- Morzine Bike Park (Pleney) – established in 1996.
- Les Gets Bike Park – a historic mountain biking destination since 1992.
- Super Morzine / Avoriaz Bike Park – offering trails for both beginners and expert riders.
- Châtel Bike Park – known for its fun and progressive approach.

Lift Passes: Ride Across the Entire Portes du Soleil
To use the lifts at Pleney and travel between the different bike parks across the Portes du Soleil, you’ll need a mountain bike lift pass. Several options are available depending on the length of your stay:
- Single-sector Morzine passes: available as single rides or books of 6 or 12 lift journeys, valid within the Morzine area only.
- Portes du Soleil MTB Pass: available for 5 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, and longer durations. This pass gives access to all five bike parks and the entire lift network, making it the ideal choice for riders who want to explore multiple sectors from Morzine’s central location.
- Group discounts are generally available on Portes du Soleil passes when several passes of the same duration are purchased in a single order.
A hands-free rechargeable lift card is required to load your pass. It can be reused from season to season and can be purchased either online or at the resort. Lift passes are available directly from the Pleney lift ticket offices or online via the Morzine lift company website.
For even more value, the Portes du Soleil Multi Pass (a separate activity card, distinct from the MTB lift pass) provides access to a wide range of summer activities and discounts throughout the resorts in the area, making it an excellent option for rest days between mountain bike adventures.
Is access to the bike park trails free?
Yes. Access to the trails is free of charge. You only need a lift pass if you want to use the gondola and chairlifts to reach the top of the trails.
Is the Pleney Bike Park suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. With its green and blue trails and the Skills Bike Park in the Charniaz area, Morzine is an excellent place to discover downhill mountain biking and build confidence before progressing to more technical trails.
Can I access the other Portes du Soleil bike parks from Morzine?
Yes, and that’s one of Morzine’s biggest advantages. Thanks to its central location, you can easily reach the other bike parks across the Portes du Soleil. For example, an easy blue link trail connects Pleney to Les Gets, while the Portes du Soleil MTB Pass provides access to all five bike parks in the network: Morzine (Pleney), Les Gets, Super Morzine/Avoriaz, Châtel, and Champéry-Morgins.
Do I need a special lift pass to ride in multiple resorts?
Yes. The Morzine sector pass only covers the lifts at Pleney. If you want to ride in several resorts, including Les Gets, Avoriaz, Châtel, or Champéry-Morgins, you’ll need the Portes du Soleil MTB Pass, which can be purchased from any resort within the Portes du Soleil, including Morzine.
Can I hire mountain bike equipment in Morzine?
Yes. Morzine has a wide selection of bike rental shops offering downhill and enduro bikes, as well as protective equipment.
When is the Morzine Bike Park open?
