To kick off the winter season in style, the resort of Morzine, in partnership with Spartan Race France, has created a brand-new event. It is a winter trail running event called the Morzine Spartan Winter Trail. It is set to take place on 12 December 2021 and there’s a children’s race the day before, the Winter Spartan Kids.

First Spartan Winter Trail in Morzine

For a while now, trail runners have been flocking to Morzine in the summer for the Trail des Hauts-Forts that usually takes place in August. Spartan runners have also been coming to the village for a few years for the Trifecta weekend at the beginning of the summer. They probably thought they’d seen it all, but the creativity of Spartan Race France strikes again and in partnership with the resort, is coming back in winter for the first Morzine Spartan Winter Trail.
This new sporting event will take place on 2 routes marked-out through the village and on the ski slopes. There will be a 10 km race and a half-marathon. Both races will depart from the village and participants will be running along the same routes that have made the summer Spartan events so popular in Morzine.
Christophe Mugnier, Director of the Morzine–Avoriaz Tourist Office, is very proud of this new adventure and announced:
With the Trail des Hauts-Forts in summer and the Winter Trail in December, Morzine can now welcome trail runners all year long. This first edition of the Winter Trail will be a chance to see what these tracks are like in winter, so the technique is slightly different but the event just as spectacular. The start and finish lines will be in the centre of the village, and the route leads up through the Le Pleney/Nyon ski area, over the ridges and then after 21 km of stunning nature, back down to the Tourist Office.

Winter Spartan Kids: an obstacle race for the little ones

The kids haven’t been left behind because the day before the adults’ race, they have their very own version of a Spartan Race obstacle course, the Winter Spartan Kids. They will have the chance to go head-to-head along a route through the village that has been designed especially for them.
A date for the diaries for all sports fanatics was the weekend of the 11 and 12 December in Morzine!
