Discover the work of sawing wood in an authentic sawmill, restored by members of the "La Battante Morzinoise" association! The smell of sawdust, the paddle wheel, the cogs and the beating saw. An ancestral heritage.
This year, 2023, you can also discover 2 temporary exhibitions inside La Battante, one on forests and wood presented by the ONF (Office National des Forêts) and the other on the museum project currently out to tender for completion in 2024/2025.

Do you know the “battante”? It’s the name that the people of Morzine used to give to their sawmills, powered by the torrents. “La Battante Morzinoise” invites you to discover the world of sawmills, a veritable world of insiders! Contemplate the paddle wheel, admire the gleaming machinery and discover the song of the saw, which for centuries accompanied the scenes of Morzine life… In a world of planks, sawdust, cast iron and steel, a member of the association will reveal all the secrets of this typically mountain equipment.

3 types of visit are possible, with public admission inside on Wednesdays and Fridays:
1/ Free visits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week of the site seen from the outside outside the perimeter closed by the wooden barrier without the sawmill in operation.
2/ Simple tours on Fridays with sawmill operation and meeting the sawyers, access to the ONF permanent exhibition on the forest and wood.
– Guided tours on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. (registration required at the Tourist Office or on the Internet) with :
– 18-minute video on the history of Morzine,
– ONF exhibition New for summer 2023
– guided tour of the mechanics
– exhibition on the 2024/2025 museum project New for summer 2023
