Antonin Guigonnat, Morzine’s sport ambassador, and his teammate, Julia Simon, offered France the greatest title of all in the Biathlon Single Mixed Relay in Pokljuka.
The Morzine man’s selection to accompany Julia Simon in representing France somewhat surprised the experts of this discipline, but the French team managers had made the right choice. Before the race, Bouthiaux, the French biathlon cross-country skiing technical manager had said “This choice hasn’t been made by chance. They’ve known one another for a long time and have got better at the very fast shooting required in the single mixed relay. This will allow them to express their full potential in a race format they’re comfortable with. There’s a real chance of a medal here and we intend to take it.” And they did! The duo won the gold medal, much to the pride of Antonin’s fan club in Morzine. Once again, well done to him and to Julia.
