During the week of the 22 August, Morzine’s Santa Cruz team organised events centred around their ambassador Danny MacAskill. Throughout the week, there were various events and challenges. There was a virtual reality experience on a Santa Cruz bike to see what it’s like to ride like this talented Scottish rider on two of his past rides. Both these rides will put your sense of balance to the test and the experience is highly realistic. You’ll be able to feel the texture of the ground as you ride and you’ll be surrounded by all the noises and stunning views as if you were actually there.

Who is Danny MacAskill?

Danny MacAskill is a Scottish trials cyclist who was born in 1985 in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. This Scottish cyclist fell in love with anything bike-related when he was a young child. This passion for bikes only grew over the years and by the age of 37, he was an icon in the world of mountain biking, thanks to his hard work and perseverance to take his skills to the next level.

His trip to Morzine.

This talented Scotsman came to ride in our beautiful valley of Haute Savoie for a week. While here, his team worked alongside the Santa Cruz team in Morzine, and he was able to tell us all about his adventures, upcoming projects, sign our helmets, bike frames etc. For two evenings in a row, we were able to watch videos together at Morzine Tourist Office that showcased his talent in such a wide range of different environments and terrains. During these showings, he gave us explanations, told us stories and explained the context behind the videos. Then everyone had the chance to enjoy a beer together opposite the Santa Cruz showroom, Rue du Bourg. Danny is a passionate rider who is always delighted to take the time to talk to people who come to see him.

He did just that on the last day of his stay. After riding with all the instructors from the cycling club in Morzine, Danny MacAskill spent some time with the children from Morzine cycling club. He played a game with them that is similar to musical chairs, whereby the last to stay on their bike without touching the ground is the winner. Every time someone’s foot touches the ground, the circle becomes smaller and there is less space to ride and keep balance. Danny MacAskill won despite efforts from the club’s children to trap him into putting his foot down. Again, Danny spent time signing the children’s equipment and taking photos with them so they could leave with a souvenir of this experience.
