The moment you’ve all been waiting for… the legendary Hauts-Forts Trail Race will be back in Morzine on Saturday 9 August 2025.
This key event takes place at an elevation of 1,800 metres on a mountain trail that runs between Morzine and Avoriaz. The Hauts-Forts Trail Race reveals the most beautiful panoramic views of the Portes du Soleil.
So prepare your backpack, dig out your poles, grab your trail shoes and prepare for an extraordinary adventure on a challenging itinerary strewn with technical difficulties and covering an enormous elevation range (total gain of 1,900 to 3,800 metres). This event really pushes your boundaries, especially as you’ll have to be self-sufficient because there are no supply points along the way.
There are 4 different races:
- Les Hauts-Forts (51 km, 3,850-metre elevation gain), our flagship race
- Le Fornet (40 km, 3,040-metre elevation gain), to test the route before tackling the longer race
- Les Mines d’Or (23 km, 1,950-metre elevation gain), the most popular choice
- Le Relais des Contrebandiers (30 km / 21km, elevation gain of 2,100 / 1,740 metres), a race run in pairs
All four itineraries of the Hauts-Forts Trail Race can earn you ITRA points.
They are also included in the list of UTMB® WORLD SERIES QUALIFIERS. When you finish one of the Hauts Forts Trail Races, your UTMB® Index is updated and you win the privilege of accessing the UTMB® World Series Events and the UTMB® World Series Majors: exclusive pre-registration period, lower fees, and entry into a draw for sellout races.
Morzine-Avoriaz is, first and foremost, an incredibly lively destination, not only in winter but in summer too. A host of activities for an action-packed holiday with family or friends, and waymarked trail running routes for all levels. With departure points in the village centre, the itineraries around Morzine make use of the lifts, which means you don’t have to begin on a steep uphill section, but can start directly on the ridges and enjoy all-round panoramic views. Here are two examples:
Super Morzine Ridge Trail Race(14 km, 280-metre elevation gain).
From the centre of the resort, take the Super Morzine gondola lift, then the Zore chairlift. You’ll progress along a beautiful crest trail with views of the Dents du Midi. The route continues towards Avoriaz and then a gentle downward slope takes you back to your departure point.
Avoriaz – Morzinette Trail Race (9 km, 275-metre elevation gain)
Use the shuttle service to get to Prodains, then take the cable car directly to Avoriaz. First of all, this route winds down across the Alpine pastures, offering superb views over the highest point of the Portes du Soleil. It then leads back down to Morzinette and ends with a lovely woodland path that takes you back to the church square.
Enthusiasts will find all they need to know and much more besides, on the Morzine-Avoriaz Tourist Office’s website devoted specifically to trail running: “https://www.morzinemountainrunning.com/”>Morzine Mountain Running. Visit the website to see details of trail-running routes (with itinerary map, terrain profile and detailed description) for all levels, a brief about specific signage, multi-format guides, route suggestions for novices, a list of races scheduled in the local region and much more. Nothing has been left out. To chat with other trail runners, you can also join the Morzine trail runners’ group on Facebook.
Without a doubt, Morzine is the ultimate destination for fans of mountain trails, nature and amazing scenery.
