Are you of the opinion that electric biking isn’t a sport?
Electric bikes were first introduced as a way to be able to cycle further without the strenuous physical effort. Since then, this opinion has changed somewhat. Electric bikes are popular for the comfort they can provide for family bike rides with some uphill sections. They are also often used to replace cars for people who live fairly close to amenities. Those always on the lookout for new forms of excitement who are used to going to the bikepark and enduro biking will enjoy trying out an electric bike. These bikes help you go further, and reach higher peaks up even steeper climbs. Don’t forget that an electric bike is however much heavier than a standard bike. The weight can vary between 25 kg and 28 kg depending on the brand and model of the bike. So if you’d like to venture up some steep roads and reach new heights, you’ll need a certain level of fitness to be able to stay in complete control of your bike.
Electric bike trails
There are marked-out routes all over the Portes du Soleil, as well as through Aulps Valley where you’ll find Morzine. You can take a look at the map here. The Portes du Soleil has prepared fully marked-out trails. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or you’d just like to explore our valley along the banks of the river Dranse and then go up to Nyon waterfall and watch people canyoning down the river.
The advantage of these routes is that they can be used all year round because they are not dependent on the ski lift opening hours. You are free to use them as and when you want.
As for the equipment, we recommend cycling or MTB gear or clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Most importantly, you’ll need suitable footwear that protects your feet. We recommend trail running trainers or hiking boots rather than standard trainers. Your feet need to be protected in the event of a fall. Knee and elbow protection is also recommended because these are the first places to get injured if you fall, even though you’re much less likely to fall off an electric bike ride than you are at the bike parks.
If you don’t own an electric bike, we suggest stopping by our bike rental shops to see what they’ve got available. Most of them only provide electric bikes for hire in the summer.
Whether you’re more used to riding standard bikes or you’re just curious to find out more about electric bikes. You can sign up for electric bike lessons and benefit from the talent of our qualified instructors who will teach you the basics and show you how to ride your electric bike.
You can browse the shops that provide electric bikes for hire here.
