Are you planning on going skiing this winter? Before heading out onto the slopes, you’ve got the whole of autumn to get fit first!

Get your legs ready for the fresh snow

We recommend starting to warm up your body at a gentle but regular pace, 1 to 2 months before your skiing holiday. Focus on your ankles, knees and thighs so your legs are fully prepared for the physical demands of skiing, to avoid any injuries and also to make sure you really enjoy your time on the slopes.

If you live in or around Morzine, we recommend using the outdoor fitness trail at Dérêches Park. There are 20 apparatus stations dotted throughout the park, alongside the river Dranse. Each one comes with a detailed explanation of how to use it correctly. You can expect to work on your strength, agility and endurance!

It’s always a good idea to do some cardio training, no matter which sport you’re preparing for, skiing included. But if running really isn’t your thing (especially when the weather starts getting colder), there are exercises you can do at home such as skipping or using a cross trainer if you’ve got one.

Professionals there to guide you

For guaranteed results, you could go to a gym and take advantage of all the right equipment there. Either alone or with a personal trainer, choose exercises that target the various parts of the body you’d like to work on.

Buzz Performance is a gym that offers various package deals. You can use the equipment alone, take part in group sessions with a coach or have your own personalised training plan.<br>After spending a day out on the slopes, your body will thank you for this preparation you did beforehand!

Getting fit is one thing, but you also need to prepare your equipment

It’s important to feel fit before you set off on your skis, but it’s also important to take good care of them, which is why we absolutely recommend waxing them at the beginning of the season. Special wax is applied to the underside of your skis for better adherence and smoother skiing.

The many sports shops in the resort can do this for you, so make sure you remember to take your skis there as soon as you arrive!
While you’re there, why not ask them to check your skis and tighten any bindings if necessary before you take on your first slopes. That’s it, you’re ready for the slopes!
